In today’s blog post, I talk about what is a promotional model’s best asset and you may be surprised to find out that it isn’t your beauty.

In the world of promotional modeling, business skills are the assists that will carry you far. Companies and advertisers are looking for the total package when it comes to paying other companies to represent their brands.

Yes, companies want their promotional models to be the best looking girls they can find because lets face it, sex sells like no other, but there are thousand of beautiful and sexy girls out there that a company could stick into their brand marketing campaigns.

It is the combination of beauty with business skills that will make you a valuable commodity and trusted professional to staffing companies and marketing companies.

The overly successful promotional models are very good at grabbing a potential customer’s attention, engaging them in a fun and interesting manner while selling them on trying and ultimately using their client’s products now and in the future.

When you combine beauty, the ability to sell, networking and professionalism, you have the recipe’ to do big things in this industry.

In this post, I explain why you should have a plan in place for your career as a model and how you can use promotional modeling as a stepping stone to fund and give you time to build a portfolio that will get you hired with modeling agencies.

Most girls trying to break into the Modeling Industry don’t approach it as if they are starting a business but simply as a way to make some extra cash.

Those girls truly trying to make a career as a model should go into it with realistic expectations and with a plan to move up the ladders in the industry.

This will be the first of many audio blog post as I am learning how to podcast and create audio files. I plan to do more and more with the audio files and to provide useful relevant information about the modeling industry in this format.

Give me some feedback on the audio post and give us your thoughts on the topics covered in the post. Its been very interesting learning this new technology but I look forward to the next post and on the modeling podcast I am working hard on putting together for you guys.

In the modeling Industry, there are niches or specialties of modeling that are more accessible to the newbie model because they are not as focused on overall beauty and amazing portfolios.

Not every one has a super model’s looks, a fitness or glamour model’s body or have had the opportunity to work with the best photographers.

The average person wanting to get into modeling has good lucks and is in shape with an average portfolio but this is not enough to catch the eye of a modeling agency looking to hire a model for a catalog shoot.

So what can the average model do to get started working in this industry?

Promotional modeling is the key because promotional modeling is one of these niche modeling types where overall beauty is not as important because the ability to sell product and represent a brand is most important.

Yes beauty is important as you will need to focus on looking the best you can look as modeling is apart of this type of modeling but developing business skills and being professional will take you a lot father in the promotional modeling industry.

Doing promotional modeling will provide you with the time and money to work with the best photographers and build your portfolio.

You should look at promotional modeling as a way to be working as you try to get into the higher levels of modeling where you get paid to model for advertisers. These forms of modeling are very lucrative and glamorous at the same time.

I say this because unless you are one of the best promotional models in the country, you are going to have a hard time quitting your day job just doing lower level or local promotional jobs.

You should look at promotional modeling as a stepping stone as you will learn some very important skill sets and you can establish some real contacts with advertisers and agencies alike.

As you learn how to promote and be apart of the branding process for other companies, you will learn how to brand your self. You will be taken more seriously by industry professionals if you show them that you are professional, knowledgeable and very serious about your career as a model.

Now promotional modeling isn’t the only option for new models to use to get a foot into the modeling world but it is a great way to start building contacts and getting work while building up a resume and try to get picked up by a major agency.

You can also start by trying Body Part Modeling and various other niche types of modeling to get your foot in the door.

I wanted to talk about cell phones in this post because cell phones have become such a problem. I always try to remind you guys that when you became a promotional model, you actually started a business.

When you are hired to do a job, you are expected to act in a professional manner. So one of if not the biggest reasons for you guys to not be seen as professional is strictly tied to your cell phones.

What tends to happen is that you get on a job and things are slow if not dead. There are not a lot of customers or no one is paying any attention to you and you get bored.

So what do most people do when they get bored?

We get on Facebook or any social media sites and we play games, check email or whatever it is you like to do online.

However, you should never be doing these activities while you are at a job promoting an account. This is so unprofessional and it shows a lack of interest in the business of the account you’re promoting.

Cell phones should stay in the car until you are on break or done working. If you were working on most jobs and were found playing on your cell phone, don’t you think you would have problems with your boss.

Normally, you are not going to be approached by someone for being on your cell phones because you are a contractor not an employee but don’t be surprised if you are not asked to come back and work later.

I know if I was an account manager for a big promo  staffing agency or marketing agency and I was told that a model was on their cell phone during the job or doing anything else that is unprofessional, that model would be on my black list and I would never ask them to do any more work for me.

Account managers are looking for professional contractors to represent their clients. If you are bored because there is a lack of customers, either talk to the person in charge about what else you can do for them or offer to come back at a later time.

Remember, your ultimate goal is to establish a real professional relationship with these accounts where they trust that you will take care of them. This is how you start to build your own business’s brand which you should be trying to do to move up in the industry.

Cell phones stay in the car…period!
